Global Warming and What Everyone Can Do About It

As consumers of energy in our daily lives, all of us have the basic power to take personal action to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that cause global warming and its destructive effects from climate change and degradation of our diverse environments.
This site highlights the most critical personal actions you can take in using energy that will bring about the largest reductions in these emissions.
How effective can this be? Our research shows that such personal actions can reduce your yearly energy consumption by at least 15 to 20 percent and in many cases much more. If everyone coordinated together in these actions it would produce the largest step yet toward satisfying the Kyoto Treaty, which asks all nations to roll back their emissions to the level of 1990 as a first defense against global warming. All of us can make this happen using the simple principle of small actions done by many, many hands.

K EY STATISTIC

"Nearly 33 percent of all greenhouse gas

emissions come from daily use

(and often waste) of energy

by individual consumers."

How to use this site: Steps 1, 2.
1… First, look up the facts about emission sources.
Find out what are the four major sources of greenhouse gases by clicking EMISSION SOURCES on the navigation bar at the top of each page.
2… Next, discover the causes and key actions to remedy them.
On the navigation bar at the top, click through ELECTRICITY, FUEL, and HEATING as well as COOLER EATING, RECYCLING, and TREE PLANTING. There you'll find the key actions along with other tips that you can take to significantly reduce greenhouse gases.
